About this course

The course develops hand and foot coordination, timekeeping and rhythmic vocabulary through contemporary drumming styles. Learners work with and without click tracks or backing tracks, apply rudiments and practise grooves and techniques relevant to different styles. Teaching combines verbal instruction, demonstrations, group practice, individual work, discussion and Q&A. Learners also develop chart and music-reading skills and perform in front of the class.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for intermediate players and is suitable for learners who have completed Level 1 or can already play crotchet-, quaver-, triplet- and semiquaver-based drum-kit grooves. Some basic music-reading knowledge is also required. Participation includes group and individual practice, discussions and performing for the class.

• Around a year of playing experience is indicated
• Regular practice between lessons is essential
• Learners may be exposed to high volume levels

Before you go

• Bring a pair of drumsticks.
• A notepad and pen are optional.
• Ear plugs are strongly encouraged because the instruments and course content may involve high volume levels.
• A regular practice routine is essential.
