About this course
The course develops drum kit technique, rudiments and reading skills through a broader range of styles, including Afro-Cuban drumming. Sessions introduce unusual time signatures and basic polyrhythms, while applying techniques and concepts from earlier levels to playing in styles such as pop, rock, funk, shuffle and jazz. Teaching combines verbal instruction, demonstrations, group practice, individual work, discussions and question-and-answer sessions. Participants receive regular feedback and perform in front of the class.

Is this course right for you?
This course is intended for intermediate drummers with at least three years of experience, or equivalent ability developed through Levels 1 and 2. Learners should be prepared to practise regularly, work both individually and in a group, contribute to discussions and perform in front of the class.
- Requires confident playing of crotchet, quaver, triplet and semiquaver-based grooves
- Familiarity with pop, rock, funk, shuffle and jazz drumming is expected
- Learners should be able to read, interpret and perform basic drum charts
- Tutor approval is required before enrolment
Before you go
- A regular practice routine is described as essential.
- High volume levels may occur during lessons; bringing earplugs is strongly encouraged.
- Participants should bring a pair of drumsticks.
- A notepad and pen are optional.
