About this course

The course introduces Dutch through personal introductions, everyday exchanges and basic social situations. Learners practise greetings, exchanging personal information, spelling names, discussing languages, expressing likes and dislikes, and using formal and informal forms of address. Teaching combines grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation work with group activities and role-plays. Lessons are taught primarily in Dutch and cover question formation, sentence structure, pronouns, numbers, time expressions and selected present and past-tense verbs. The programme also introduces Dutch traditions, cities, provinces and foods.

What you'll learn

• Introduce yourself and other people in Dutch
• Ask and answer basic questions about personal information
• Handle short everyday social interactions, including greetings and farewells
• Use question words, sentence structures and personal and possessive pronouns
• Use the verbs "hebben", "zijn" and "houden van" in present and past forms
• Recognise aspects of Dutch traditions, places and customs

Is this course right for you?

This course is designed for adults with no previous experience of Dutch. Participation involves regular spoken practice, group work and role-plays in a face-to-face classroom, with teaching conducted primarily in Dutch. Learners who already have some basic Dutch knowledge may be better suited to another level.
