About this course
Drawing on Tanztheater, the course examines how movement can communicate relationships, emotion and story without words. Participants develop material through contact improvisation, solo choreography, partner responsiveness and group synchronisation, with social and partner dance forms such as waltz and tango, and fight choreography, introduced where they arise naturally in the creative process. Teaching combines practical dance exercises, choreographic tasks, discussion, and solo, pair and group work. The focus includes giving and receiving information through the body, sharing weight and responding to others in movement.
What you'll learn
- Use movement to communicate and receive information non-verbally
- Apply contact improvisation techniques including partner manipulation, weight sharing and lifts
- Coordinate movement in synchrony with other dancers
