Elementary French Term 3

About this course

The course develops basic French across speaking, listening, reading and writing. Learners practise short written sentences, simple presentations and listening for the main message, alongside revision of vocabulary and grammar. Activities include individual tasks, role-play, games and pair or small-group work. Topics include weather, daily routines, travel in France, shopping and visiting places such as a chateau. Grammar work covers the perfect tense with avoir and être, the imperative, reflexive verbs and time expressions.

What you'll learn

• Arrange appointments and invitations, including stating times and dates.
• Discuss the weather in the present, past and future.
• Describe daily routines using common reflexive verbs.
• Handle simple conversations at tourist offices, stations and letting agencies.
• Use common phrases for shopping.
• Talk about past events using the past tense.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners at near-beginner level who are developing beyond the fundamentals of French. Previous study equivalent to French Stage 1 Term 2 or around 30 to 35 hours is recommended. It may also suit people returning to French after a period away. Learners should expect individual study and homework alongside classroom activities.

• Recommended for learners with prior basic French study or equivalent experience.
• Suitable for people restarting French after learning it some time ago.
• Around two hours of individual study and homework each week is expected.

Before you go

• Bring paper and a pen, a bilingual French dictionary, your own device, and a notebook and file.
• A course book may be agreed at the start of the term if required.
