About this course
The course examines Willa Cather’s My Ántonia, W. G. Sebald’s The Emigrants and Mohsin Hamid’s Exit West, considering the psychological experience of emigration alongside the historical and social forces behind migration. Discussion covers biography, historical epic, fictionalised history, magical realism and changing attitudes towards emigrants. Teaching combines tutor presentation with close reading, small-group work and interactive class discussion.
