About this course
The class focuses on English country dances from Playford and later traditions, with live musical accompaniment. Participants first walk through figures and sequences before dancing them, including more complex dances that may be performed with or without calls. Activities involve responding to the music and to other dancers, and may also draw on films, photography, websites and online communities as study resources.
What you'll learn
- Rehearse figures within complex English country dances
- Respond to musical cues and the movements of other dancers
- Perform dances containing multiple figures with and without calls

- The class includes extended periods of standing while sequences are learned
- Learners work with changing dance partners rather than needing to enrol with a partner
