About this course
This butoh workshop examines movement through stillness, axis and space work, sustained improvisation, sensitivity and responsiveness. Participants explore how simple acts and gestures can become expressive movement, while questioning habitual ideas about what dance is. The teaching draws on several distinct approaches, with sessions shaped through both planned exercises and intuitive responses to the people and circumstances present. The course focuses on presence, listening through the body and entering unfamiliar movement states rather than preparing a conventional performance.
