About this course

This course develops foundational English through familiar situations and guided practice. Participants work on recognising everyday signs and simple texts, forming letters, words and sentences, and exchanging basic personal information in speech and writing. Sessions also cover numbers, daily routines, likes and dislikes, and using postcodes with Google Maps to plan straightforward journeys. Tutor-supported activities allow learners to work at their own pace and practise listening and responding to familiar people, including family members, friends and the teacher.

What you'll learn

• Read familiar signs and simple everyday texts
• Write the alphabet, basic words and simple sentences
• Give personal information in spoken and written English
• Recognise numbers, count to 100 and write numbers from one to twenty in words
• Describe daily routines and likes or dislikes using the simple present tense
• Use postcodes and Google Maps to plan simple journeys

The course is designed for complete beginners in English, including learners starting with no familiarity with the language. Participation involves tutor-guided listening, speaking, reading and writing practice based on everyday situations, with activities completed at an individual pace.
