Essential Digital Skills Level 1

About this course

The course develops everyday digital skills across device use, information storage, file creation and editing, online communication, online transactions, and responsible and safe internet use. It also introduces Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Teaching combines explanations, demonstrations, classroom tasks and discussions, with opportunities to practise the topics covered. Progress is reviewed through class activities, homework or specific tasks, feedback and mock tests, leading to an end-of-course examination for the relevant qualification.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners working towards a Level 1 qualification in Essential Digital Skills. It is aimed at people who already have basic computer experience, including using a keyboard and mouse, email, simple documents, folders and saved files. A pre-course assessment is required, and learners should be working towards at least Level 1 in English or ESOL.

• Learners should ideally have completed Essential Digital Skills Entry 3 and a bridging course
• Regular practice outside class is recommended
• Access to a computer or laptop and the internet is needed to practise the skills
