Essential Digital Skills Level 1

About this course

The course develops digital skills across using devices and information, creating and editing, communication, transacting, and staying safe online. Participants work with Word documents, PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets, considering how content should be adapted for different audiences. Activities also include capturing and enhancing photos, videos and sound files, changing system settings for accessibility, refining internet searches, and using online services such as shops and banks.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for improvers who can already install apps, find information online, and save pictures or videos online. It is designed for learners who have completed Essential Digital Skills Qualification Entry 3 or have been assessed as having an equivalent level, with literacy and numeracy at least at Entry Level 3.

• Previous Entry 3 digital skills study or an equivalent assessed level is expected
• Learners complete independent online work and homework alongside classroom learning
• The course includes task-based and written final assessments for the qualification

Before you go

• Learners are expected to spend about two hours each week practising digital skills through homework.
• Additional Learning Support may be available through classroom, small-group, workshop or one-to-one support, subject to an interview.
• Reasonable adjustments, assistive equipment and access support may be available for learners with disabilities or additional needs.
