About this course

The course examines nature and environmental photography through talks, demonstrations, discussion and practical shooting indoors and outdoors. Participants will study and critique published photographers’ and artists’ work, then apply ideas about depth of field, natural light and composition to their own images. Teaching combines group activities, individual tutoring, project work and constructive feedback. Participants will develop a personal photographic project, exploring how images can communicate a story while refining their visual approach and use of DSLR or mirrorless camera functions.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners with some practical photography experience who want to develop their DSLR or mirrorless camera skills. Participation includes outdoor shooting, group discussion, individual work and feedback on photographs, with practice between lessons.

Before you go

  • Participants should bring a camera, notebook, pen and an A3 scrapbook for developing projects.
  • Images need to be printed between lessons for discussion.
  • Comfortable clothing and footwear are requested for trips outside the studio.
  • DSLR and mirrorless cameras are available for use during taught hours if necessary.
  • Image editing is not taught on this course.
