About this course

The course introduces glass as a raw material and explores forming methods including fusing, slumping and small-scale fuse-to-cast construction. Learners develop visual research into test pieces and then decorative or functional glass forms. Sessions combine tutor demonstrations, discussion and practical workshop tasks. Individual projects are supported through observation and one-to-one feedback, with a group presentation at the end showing how each learner’s work has developed.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for beginners, with the level label indicating an introductory starting point. Learners work on individual projects within a practical workshop and receive guidance throughout. Participation also includes a group presentation at the end of the course.

Before you go

  • Tuition, specialist materials, use of specialist equipment and kiln firings are included.
  • Learners are expected to purchase some kiln-formed glass materials, and may need to buy small tools or additional materials advised by the tutor.
  • A sketchbook or notebook and drawing or writing implements may be useful.
  • Sturdy shoes, boots or trainers must be worn. Open sandals are not permitted.
  • An apron is required.
  • Basic workshop tools are available, and glass and other materials can be bought or brought in.
