About this course

The course develops Excel techniques for working with datasets and drawing conclusions that can inform recommendations and next steps. Topics include traditional and formula-based sorting and filtering, conditional formatting, charts, pivot tables, and the GROUPBY and PIVOTBY functions. It also addresses common data-entry and organisation pitfalls. Teaching combines step-by-step instruction with demonstrations, followed by application of the techniques to example datasets.

What you'll learn

  • Organise and process datasets using Excel.
  • Apply traditional and formula-based sorting and filtering methods.
  • Create charts, conditional formatting and pivot tables to analyse data.
  • Use GROUPBY and PIVOTBY formulas for pivot-style analysis.
  • Draw conclusions, recommendations and next steps from data for different stakeholders.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for learners with intermediate Excel knowledge who are extending their skills into more advanced data analysis. Its teaching combines step-by-step instruction and demonstrations with application to example datasets, so participants will work directly with Excel features for organising, analysing and presenting information.

  • Intermediate Excel knowledge is expected.
  • The course applies techniques to example datasets rather than focusing only on demonstrations.

Before you go

  • Learners may bring their own laptop if they wish.
  • There are no additional costs stated.
  • Learners who attend the full course receive an electronic City Lit certificate of attendance.
