Experimental filmmaking: stage 2

About this course

The course develops experimental filmmaking in a fine art context through work with animation, green screen, expanded audio-visual techniques and video installations. Participants develop a personal project, exploring non-narrative formats and footage from different sources. Teaching combines demonstrations, short lectures, individual and group assistance, peer feedback and course notes. Editing is taught in Premiere Pro, while DaVinci Resolve may be used with course support. The course also covers presenting completed work online.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended as a progression from an introductory experimental film course or a beginner moving-image module within fine art. It involves individual project work, group discussion and responding to demonstrations and feedback. An interest in art, basic computer use and the ability to follow written and spoken instructions are required.

• Requires basic keyboard, mouse, file-management and application skills
• Includes participation in group discussion and peer feedback
• Learners should be able to use numbers and carry out simple measurements and calculations

Before you go

• High-definition cameras, professional equipment and software are available for use during the course.
• A memory stick or portable hard drive would be useful for storing work.
• Course tasks, notes and resources are provided through Google Classroom; learners need to log in before each session.
