About this course

Participants investigate unconventional ways to make images through practical activities, demonstrations, short presentations and group discussion. The course covers manual camera settings, physical interventions with props, alternative lighting and in-camera methods for producing abstract or expressive photographs. Digital and physical manipulation includes multiple exposures, mirroring, collage and simple photomontage. Work takes place in the studio and on local walks, with guidance during experiments and tasks to complete between sessions.

What you'll learn

  • Produce multiple exposures, mirrored images and simple photomontage.
  • Manipulate photographs using creative digital processes.
  • Use unconventional lighting to produce surreal effects.
  • Combine camera, lighting and image manipulation in a creative workflow.
  • Develop a personal approach to experimental photography.
