About this course
Participants work with commercial sewing patterns, taking body measurements, interpreting instructions and adjusting patterns to improve garment fit. The course combines tutor guidance with experimentation, testing and reflection as learners explore pattern-cutting and construction methods for different fabrics and design intentions. Sessions cover interfacing, tacking, gathering, pleats, frills, puffs, basic quilting, hand sewing and garment-finishing techniques. Learners also create a reference library of stitched samples, seams and fabric examples to support future clothes-making projects.

- Interpret commercial pattern layouts, markings and instructions when planning a garment.
- Adjust patterns and garments to improve fit.
