About this course

Participants will experiment with varied collage techniques and use text and image to create physical compositions. The course introduces graphic design principles including contrast, balance, hierarchy, repetition and alignment, alongside ideas about play, risk and visual problem-solving. Teaching combines presentations, demonstrations, practical work, individual and group tutoring, and discussion. Examples from historical and contemporary artists and designers will inform the activities, while learners will be encouraged to evaluate their own work and discuss others’ outcomes.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for beginners. Learners should be able to follow verbal and written instructions, demonstrations and health and safety information in English, make short notes for personal use, and take part in group discussions. Teaching includes both individual and group support.

Before you go

  • Basic materials and resources are available as part of the course.
  • Learners are advised to bring an A5 or A4 sketchbook for recording ideas.
  • An A3 folder and/or USB drive is advised for transporting work.
  • Any additional materials required will be discussed during the course.
