About this course

The course examines how typography communicates ideas through composition, scale and colour. Participants create images and experiment with words and phrases using pre-existing type, stamps and other analogue techniques. Sessions combine presentations, demonstrations, practical work, individual and group tutoring, and discussion. The course also introduces font construction and considers how type can be used in participants’ own creative work, with examples from historical and contemporary creative practice. Reflection on personal work forms part of the learning process, and extension activities may be suggested outside class.
