About this course

Participants develop a theme, subject or question over time rather than moving between unrelated exercises. The course focuses on experimentation, revision and reflection, including adapting scale, palette, materials, techniques and working methods to different intentions. Drawings and paintings may be revisited in response to discussion and feedback, while shared looking helps learners consider how ideas and processes are developing. Group discussion also provides opportunities to explain creative decisions and identify recurring interests, subjects, marks or compositional choices in individual work.

What you'll learn

  • Develop ideas through sustained experimentation across multiple sessions
  • Adapt materials, techniques and processes to suit different intentions
  • Revise and rework drawings or paintings in response to reflection and feedback
  • Identify recurring interests, subjects, marks or compositional choices in developing work
  • Explain creative decisions with reference to both process and outcomes
