About this course

Participants explore gel plate printing through demonstrations and practical exercises focused on mark-making, drawing and layered image-making. The course covers hand-cut paper stencils, colour and ink layering, print registration, using varied tools, and transferring existing digital images onto paper. Materials and textures are combined to create illustrative monoprints, including a 5 x 7 inch print using water-based ink. Tutor and peer feedback support the development of work, with reflection on the process and possible extension activities outside class.

Is this course right for you?

The course is designed for complete beginners, with no previous experience required. Participation includes following demonstrations and written or verbal instructions, completing practical tasks, reflecting on work, and taking part in group discussions. English-language competency is required to follow hand-outs and health and safety information.

Before you go

• Basic materials and resources are available as part of the course.
• Bring an A5 or A4 sketchbook for recording ideas.
• Bring an A3 folder to transport work.
