About this course

The course introduces tapestry weaving through a small sampler, covering how to warp a loom, begin and finish work, change colour and create simple shapes. Learners then develop a tapestry based on their own design, using traditional and experimental approaches and a range of materials. More experienced participants can investigate texture, techniques and methods through individual projects, including larger or more complex pieces. Handouts on weaving techniques and specific forms of tapestry are provided, alongside references to traditional and contemporary weavers.

What you'll learn

  • Start and finish a woven piece
  • Change colour and weave simple shapes
  • Apply a range of traditional and experimental tapestry techniques
  • Develop a tapestry from an original design
  • Explore texture and methods through an individual project
