Explore the art of printmaking

About this course

Participants explore monotype, drypoint, collagraph, linocut and etching, developing designs from drawing, photography or observation. Sessions cover plate preparation, composition, texture, mark-making and the production of one-off prints and small editions. Teaching combines demonstrations, presentations, guided exercises, group discussion and individual projects. Learners work at their own pace, with tutor feedback and support tailored to their level. There is no formal assessment; participants set personal goals and share their work at the end of the course.

Is this course right for you?

The course is for adults aged 19 and over, from complete beginners to learners with some printmaking experience. The all-levels format combines structured exercises with independent projects, group discussion and sharing work.

• No previous printmaking experience is required
• Learners should be able to follow instructions and health and safety guidance
• There is no formal assessment or required work outside class

Before you go

• Basic materials are provided at the start, including an A5 metal plate for learning techniques.
• The studio provides etching presses, specialist tools and personal protective equipment where required.
• Additional plates, papers or tools may be purchased through the college at cost price.
• Some processes use solvents, with safety equipment provided.
