About this course

The course surveys ideas, themes, movements and styles in British art from the early twentieth century to the present. It considers how social, cultural and political changes shape artistic practice, and how museums, galleries and exhibitions influence interpretation. Learning combines tutor-led presentations with group discussion, close study of artworks and research activities. Where appropriate, visits to museums and galleries provide further opportunities to examine art and its presentation. The course also introduces approaches to discussing and interpreting visual material.
