Exploring Constructed Sculpture

About this course

Participants explore ways to construct sculpture using clay, plaster, wood, metal and mixed materials. The course introduces clay modelling, relief plaster casting, spot welding and soldering, while excluding introductory carving. Learners develop individual projects by researching ideas in sketchbooks or scrapbooks, selecting suitable materials and refining their work through tutor feedback and group discussion. Teaching combines group demonstrations, step-by-step instruction, peer learning and one-to-one tutorials. Workshop practice includes health and safety procedures relevant to working alongside others in the studio.

Is this course right for you?

The course is open to beginners and experienced students, with no previous experience necessary. Beginners receive additional support, while learners work on individual projects with a combination of group teaching, peer learning and one-to-one tutorials.

Before you go

• Sturdy footwear and old clothing or overalls are requested for class.
• Personal protective equipment for the processes is provided in the studio.
• Basic materials are included; materials used beyond the allocated materials fee are charged separately.
