About this course

The course introduces basic Latin language and pronunciation alongside key aspects of Roman society and culture. Participants work with short passages from well-known Roman authors, discussing their meaning and the continuing influence of Roman civilisation. Sessions also examine Latin roots in English, including vocabulary used in law, science and everyday language. Learning is reviewed through tutor observation, classroom activities and a Personal Learning Plan.

The course is designed for complete beginners with no previous knowledge of Latin. As an all-levels course, it uses an introductory approach, with learners discussing their aims and taking part in language activities and guided discussion.
