About this course
Sculpture is explored through clay modelling, plaster modelling and casting, and work with wood and metal. Learners develop individual projects in selected media within an open workshop, receiving guidance through demonstrations, practice, observation and discussion. The course also introduces armature construction, including spot welding, and considers workshop health and safety. Sketchbooks or scrapbooks support project development and research, while tutor feedback and group discussion help learners review their work and consider aesthetic decisions. Contemporary sculpture practice is investigated through exhibition-related discussion and learners’ own research.

- Model clay and produce relief plaster casts.
- Use introductory armature construction techniques, including spot welding.
- Apply appropriate health and safety practices in a shared sculpture workshop.
