About this course
Participants develop individual sculpture projects while exploring materials, processes and three-dimensional form. Work may range from clay modelling and plaster mould making to armature construction and constructive metalwork. Short introductory projects, demonstrations and step-by-step tuition introduce new techniques and materials, with primarily one-to-one teaching alongside some group work for beginners. Handouts cover health and safety, materials, techniques and references. Learners also agree individual goals with the tutor and record and assess their progress through Individual Learning Plans.

- Practise clay modelling, plaster mould making and casting, and armature construction.
- Apply sculptural techniques across chosen media, including constructive metalwork.
- Develop and articulate ideas through individual sculpture projects.
- Follow safe workshop practices in relation to personal and shared studio use.
- Evaluate work and make critical decisions about its development within an individual and group setting.

The course is open to all abilities, including learners with no previous experience, and provides additional support for beginners. Participants work mainly on individual projects, with some group activity for beginners. Some lifting may be involved depending on the chosen medium, with help available.

Before you go
- Basic materials are included within the allocated course materials fee.
- Additional charges apply if materials used exceed the allocated fee, or for ceramic firing.
- Learners should bring a sketchbook and drawing materials.
- Protective clothing, such as an overall or apron, and strong shoes or boots are recommended. Any protective clothing supplied by the college must be worn where applicable.
