About this course

The course explores figurative art through work with nude and clothed life models, including life drawing, life painting, portraiture and composition. Learners examine how contemporary artists and old masters approach figurative work, while developing observational and technical skills in drawing and painting. Teaching combines explanations of theory with group or individual demonstrations and guided practice. Learners with existing experience can discuss individual projects, set objectives and plan their development with the tutor, who provides practical and technical support when needed.

Before you go

• Required materials include HB, 3B and 6B pencils, a putty rubber, and medium or thick charcoal.
• Later course work uses oil pastels, oil paint, watercolour or acrylic.
