Figurative Life Sculpture – Beginners

About this course

Participants study the human form through observational drawing and clay modelling, working from a life model to develop figurative and portraiture techniques. Sessions cover shaping clay, constructing wire armatures, and creating textured or tonal surfaces with oxides and glazes. Traditional and experimental approaches are considered alongside examples from historical and contemporary artists. Tutor discussions, written feedback and a Personal Learning Plan are used to focus individual goals and review progress during the course.

Before you go

• Non-slip, closed footwear is recommended in the pottery area.
• Materials and firing arrangements are explained in the first class.
• Participants may bring their own materials, but on-site storage is unavailable unless materials are purchased from the college.
• Allow 15 minutes at the end of each class for tidying up.
• Life model fees are included.
