About this course

Participants develop figure-painting techniques through weekly challenges focused on line, mark, volume, colour relationships, tone, temperature and composition. The course centres on acrylic painting, with scope to explore oil painting, and draws on historical and contemporary approaches to painting the figure. Learning is structured around individual guidance, a Personal Learning Plan and informal group critiques. Participants discuss their own and others’ work while receiving verbal feedback during projects and discussions.

  • Develop compositions based on the figure
  • Use acrylic painting techniques and explore oil painting approaches

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for improvers with some prior knowledge of art materials, tools and techniques. Participants work from clothed and unclothed models, complete individual painting projects and take part in group critiques and discussions. Learners must be aged 19 or over on 31 August before the course starts.
