About this course
Participants develop an individual clay sculpture that abstracts the human figure, working from their own ceramic life or portrait pieces or from examples in the studio. The course introduces different 20th-century approaches to figure-based abstraction and artists who have used the figure in their work. Teaching combines demonstrations with one-to-one and group guidance. Participants explore clay modelling and textural techniques, receive detailed tutor feedback, and learn clay preparation methods for firing alongside relevant studio health and safety practice.
