About this course

The course examines how image, sound, music, voice and text can combine to create concise, lyrical film sequences. Participants consider examples from early and contemporary poetic filmmakers before developing their own short films through practical exercises and assignments. Work includes filming and recording material on location in London, editing sequences around the city’s rhythms, light, colour and atmosphere, and experimenting with found footage and AI generative software. The teaching combines practical filmmaking with discussion and study of relevant examples, with films developed for sharing on social media.

  • Record original visual and audio material for short film sequences
  • Edit footage into economical, rhythmic and emotionally evocative films
