About this course
The course combines technical instruction with creative decision-making. Participants develop ideas, plan footage and work in a small crew to shoot short scenes, including lighting setups and sound recording. They explore camera settings, lens selection and cinematography principles such as framing, angles, crossing the line and cheating the room. Editing principles are also introduced, with footage produced during the course edited for viewing. The course includes guidance on planning future short films, including cast, crew, filming permissions, equipment and film festivals.
What you'll learn
- Operate Blackmagic 4K and 6K cinema cameras using settings such as ISO, aperture, shutter speed and white balance
- Select lenses and explain how lens choice affects the appearance of shots
- Set up lighting to shape mood, atmosphere and focus within a scene
- Record sound using professional sound recording techniques
- Apply cinematography and editing principles when producing short scenes
