Fine Art: Oil Painting

About this course

The course introduces the properties and uses of oil paint through practical exercises, demonstrations and discussion of historical and contemporary approaches. Learners explore colour mixing, palette arrangement, surface preparation, underpainting and layered work, as well as alla prima, glazing, scumbling and impasto techniques. Sessions combine individual practice with tutor guidance, ongoing verbal and practical feedback, and group critiques of techniques and artistic choices. Learners may also develop personal painting projects while working from the human form.

Before you go

• The studio provides easels and all necessary materials, although learners may be asked to bring additional personal materials when needed.
