About this course

The workshop develops the technique of dancing with a flamenco tail skirt. Learners practise basic manoeuvres, movement patterns and short sequences, first with guided demonstrations and repeated action, then by incorporating the bata de cola into flamenco choreography. Work may be done with or without the skirt, alongside rhythmic responses to flamenco and Spanish dance music. The session includes tutor feedback, discussion with other students and a short performance using the tail skirt. A recording of the workshop is provided for continued practice at home.

What you'll learn

  • Demonstrate fundamental manoeuvres with a flamenco tail skirt
  • Coordinate the tail skirt within short flamenco movement sequences
  • Apply bata de cola technique within a short flamenco dance
  • Develop coordination, strength, flexibility and stamina through flamenco dance practice

Is this course right for you?

  • A fan and shawl are optional. A notebook and screw-top bottled water are also requested.
  • The tutor can adapt exercises and activities to accommodate particular physical or learning needs.
  • A video of the workshop is provided for practice at home.
