Flamenco: find your rhythm (beginners)

About this course

The course develops flamenco technique through footwork, arm movements and turns, with exercises that combine these elements into continuous sequences. Learners work with live guitar to explore phrasing, tempo changes and rhythmic accents, repeating footwork at slower and faster speeds. Classes also cover at least two flamenco rhythms and build towards a short routine, including changes in dynamics, longer combinations and group sequences.

What you'll learn

• Perform at least six footwork techniques using changes in speed and dynamics.
• Identify at least two flamenco rhythms and recognise when they are danced in class.
• Maintain rhythmic accuracy while repeating footwork sequences at different tempos with live guitar.
• Combine arm movements, turns and footwork in a continuous sequence lasting at least 45 seconds.
• Perform a short flamenco routine lasting between one and one and a half minutes.

The course is designed for beginners and welcomes learners starting at this level. It also accommodates returning learners through longer sequences, faster tempos and more detailed rhythmic work. Participation includes practising with live guitar, working within group sequences and performing a short routine.
