Flamenco Intermediates and Advanced

About this course

The course develops flamenco technique through tutor-demonstrated exercises, repeated movement patterns and sequences involving arms, footwork, turns, stamping, clapping and castanets. Learners respond to flamenco and Spanish dance rhythms, accompanied by a guitarist, and work towards performing a complete flamenco dance. Regular feedback, discussion and digital recap resources support practice between sessions. Classes can be attended in the studio or live-streamed via Microsoft Teams, with a recording of each session provided for home practice. There may also be an opportunity to perform with Morley Flamenco Dancers.

Is this course right for you?

This course is intended for dancers with at least two years of previous flamenco experience and is designed to work at a fast pace. Participation involves sustained physical activity, including dance technique, stamping, turns and conditioning exercises. Exercises can be adapted for particular physical or learning needs.

Before you go

• Flamenco shoes or boots are recommended, along with a flamenco skirt or movement-friendly trousers and a fitted top.
• Learners should bring a notebook and screw-top bottled water.
• The tutor can adapt exercises and activities for particular physical or learning needs.
• Learners may be photographed or filmed during class and can choose whether to give consent for this.
• Recordings of sessions are provided for practice outside class.
