About this course

This studio-based workshop explores how to photograph food and other products in different environments. Participants work with natural light, flash, light modifiers, backgrounds and props, while considering the characteristics of different products and surfaces. Teaching combines discussion with practical photography exercises. The course covers camera settings, lens choice, composition and scene styling, with opportunities to trial different techniques and visual approaches for personal or commercial applications.

Before you go

  • A mirrorless, DSLR or compact camera with full manual controls is required; a camera can be provided if needed.
  • Lighting equipment, props and backgrounds are provided.
  • Participants are recommended to bring their camera manual, a fully charged battery and an empty memory card.
  • Comfortable shoes are recommended.
  • An external flash may be brought if owned, for some classes.
