About this course

The workshop examines how freelance journalists and bloggers can find, develop and tailor ideas for different markets, including print, websites and social media. It covers research, interviewing, identifying publications and pitching to editors, with attention to what happens when an idea is commissioned. Participants draft article material, study published articles to examine how they work, and apply basic editing principles. The course uses workshop-style feedback, with learners sharing their material for responses from the tutor and other participants.

This course is intended for freelance journalists and bloggers at an intermediate level, meaning learners are developing beyond fundamental subject knowledge. Some experience of journalism is expected, along with a good grasp of spoken and written English. Participants should be prepared to share their work for tutor and peer feedback.
