These are general examples of language use at this level, not a description of any individual course syllabus.

About this course

The course develops communication across everyday and contemporary topics, including lifestyles, health, customs, traditions and environmental issues. Learners practise expressing and justifying opinions, responding to longer spoken texts, reading authentic articles and writing structured emails or short narratives. Teaching combines pair and group work, role plays, games, presentations, handouts and audio-visual resources. Language work includes advice structures, the present conditional, adjective placement, demonstrative and relative pronouns, purpose with “pour”, and polite language for discussion. Cultural content considers alternative lifestyles and similarities and differences across French-speaking countries.

What you'll learn

  • Discuss different lifestyles and compare everyday practices
  • Use advice structures and the present conditional to discuss possible solutions
  • Express, justify, agree with and challenge opinions in French
  • Understand longer spoken texts such as interviews and reports
  • Write structured emails and short texts about past experiences or future plans
