What Pre-intermediate (A2+) French means

At A2+ French, learners can connect simple sentences, give reasons and manage a wider range of familiar situations.

  • Explain a preference

Je préfère voyager en train parce que c’est plus confortable et que je peux lire.

I prefer travelling by train because it is more comfortable and I can read.

  • Handle a small problem

La chambre est très froide. Pourriez-vous vérifier le chauffage ?

  • Describe an experience

L’année dernière, j’ai visité Lyon et j’ai beaucoup aimé son architecture.

Last year I visited Lyon and really liked its architecture.

These are general examples of language use at this level, not a description of any individual course syllabus.

About this course

The course uses work-related topics to develop speaking, listening, reading and writing in French. Learners discuss work-life balance, working conditions, workplace conflict and environmental issues related to professional life, while exploring contemporary work culture in France, including start-ups and co-working spaces. Teaching centres on spoken interaction through pair and group work, role plays, games, presentations, hand-outs and audio-visual resources. Language work includes hypothetical sentences, contrast, adverbs, complex negative structures and the conditional form of “aimer” for expressing opinions and preferences.

What you'll learn

  • Discuss work-life balance and the working environment
  • Handle conversations about workplace conflict and possible resolutions
  • Use hypothetical sentences, contrast and more complex negative structures
  • Express opinions, preferences, reasons and responses with greater accuracy and fluency

  • Independent work outside class is recommended to consolidate learning.

Before you go

  • A textbook and exercise book based on units 7–8 of Entre Nous 2 are used. Learners are advised to wait until after the first class before purchasing the books.

  • Homework is highly recommended.
