About this course

Participants develop a toile before cutting and constructing a short, lined jacket with hook-and-eye closures. The course covers quilting to add body, pressing to shape the garment and couture hand-stitching techniques used to refine its finish. Teaching combines garment construction with an introduction to Coco Chanel’s work and Parisian atelier methods. Learners can also consider design additions such as fringing, gimp braiding or pockets while working towards shared daily construction milestones.

What you'll learn

  • Create a toile for a short couture jacket
  • Construct a lined jacket with hook-and-eye closures
  • Quilt fabric to give the garment body
  • Use pressing techniques to shape the jacket
  • Apply couture hand-stitching methods to refine the finish
  • Add selected details such as fringing, gimp braiding or pockets
