About this course

The course introduces French through everyday communication, with lessons conducted primarily in French. Learners practise exchanging personal information, discussing preferences and handling simple social interactions through group work and role-plays. Teaching covers foundational grammar, including the present tense of être and avoir, articles, pronouns and negation. Vocabulary includes numbers, dates, family and personal interests, alongside distinctions between formal and informal language and an introduction to cultural conventions in French-speaking contexts.

Is this course right for you?

This course is designed for complete beginners who have never studied French. Learners with some existing knowledge are advised to take a placement test or contact the language department about a more suitable level. Participation includes spoken practice, group work and role-plays, with self-study contributing to progression.
