About this course

Lessons are primarily conducted in French and use group work, role-plays and other interactive activities to practise communication. Participants work with everyday language for sharing personal information, discussing French study and announcing events, while developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The course covers present-tense verbs, question formation, reasons and purposes, gendered forms for professions and countries, place prepositions, and language for years and dates. It also introduces aspects of French-speaking communities, including La Francophonie and the Alliance Française.

The course is intended for learners who have completed a beginners’ French course or studied French for at least 12 class hours. Lessons involve spoken communication, group work and role-plays. A placement test may help learners decide whether this level is suitable.
