Fretted instruments ensemble

About this course

Participants play individual parts within multi-part arrangements, working as an ensemble rather than accompanying songs through strumming. Repertoire includes popular and classical music in a range of styles. Teaching takes place through group playing, with practical demonstrations of tunes, parts and techniques. The course focuses on reading music, listening across the ensemble and coordinating separate parts while performing together.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for advanced players with experience on their chosen fretted instrument. Participation centres on playing in a group, with multi-part music allowing players of varied technical levels to be matched to suitable parts.

Before you go

• Participants must bring their own instrument.
• The department should be told in advance which instrument the participant intends to play.
• Musical materials are provided.
• Amps can be available for electric instruments.
