About this course
The course develops reading comprehension, written accuracy, spelling and verbal communication through topical study, internet research, discussions and shared activities. Learners work independently and collaboratively, with opportunities to set personal targets linked to the course outcomes and future progression. Written work includes planning, drafting and proofreading different types of text, including formal letters and emails. Progress is considered against the course learning outcomes.

This course is intended for learners who have completed Entry 3 Functional Skills English and need further development before Level 1. It involves independent study, group discussion and work outside class time. Fluency in spoken English is required, and new learners complete an assessment before enrolment.
