Functional Skills English (level 1)

About this course

The course develops reading and writing through real-world materials and tasks, including letters, articles, instructions, job adverts, forms, emails, complaints, applications and reports. Learners practise identifying key information, distinguishing fact from opinion, organising written work and using suitable tone, vocabulary, punctuation and sentence structures. Speaking and listening work includes presentations, formal and informal discussions, asking questions, explaining opinions and responding to others. The course also covers producing and submitting written work digitally, with opportunities to set a goal connected to work or further study and prepare for the Level 1 qualification exams.
