Functional Skills English – Level 1 (Online Course)

About this course

The course develops functional English for everyday and work-related situations. Learners practise identifying main points and details in different texts, reading for specific purposes, and planning, organising and checking written work. Writing activities address different audiences, purposes and basic grammar, including spelling accuracy. Teaching combines classroom instruction with activities, supported by online learning materials for study outside class. Learners also develop their participation in formal and informal discussions. Assessment includes separate reading and writing exams, together with a speaking and listening assessment, leading to a nationally recognised Level 1 qualification.

The course is intended for learners who have reached Entry Level 3 Functional Skills English and want to develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening for everyday life and work. An initial assessment is required before starting. Participation includes classroom activities, online study and formal assessments.
