Gallery Visits: Contemporary Art

About this course

Each session centres on a different exhibition, artist or theme in contemporary art practice, with learners viewing works in gallery and museum settings before discussing them. Themes may include identity, time and memory, technology, migration, post-colonial theory, and institutional or political critique. Short talks introduce relevant artists, works and ideas, while group and one-to-one discussions support close analysis and interpretation. Follow-up research materials are provided online for learners who want to extend their understanding.

Is this course right for you?

The course is intended for beginners and does not require prior knowledge of contemporary art. It is open to practising artists and non-artists. Participation involves visiting exhibitions, looking closely at artworks and contributing to facilitated group and one-to-one discussions.
